NPPA Hosts Capacity-Building Training to Strengthen Legal Responses to Gender-Based Violence (GBV)

The National Public Prosecution Authority (NPPA) is conducting a two-day capacity-building training from August 25–26, 2025, aimed at enhancing the capacity of prosecutors and investigators to handle Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases more effectively. The training places special emphasis on forensic evidence collection, analysis, and interpretation.

In her opening remarks, the Prosecutor General Angelique HABYARIMANA underscored the importance of understanding the legal, social, and psychological dimensions of GBV. She highlighted the challenges encountered during investigation and prosecution, the critical role of evidence gathering, the value of inter-agency collaboration, and the need to prioritize victims’ rights throughout the justice process.

She further encouraged participants to actively engage in the sessions and take full advantage of the learning opportunities provided.

The training covers a wide range of topics, including Rwanda’s GBV legal framework, challenges in investigation and prosecution, forensic evidence collection and interpretation, and strategies to address evidentiary barriers.
