The service that issues a Criminal Record Certificate has evolved significantly, as it is now delivered through digital platforms (Online Application).

| The department responsible for issuing the Criminal Record Certificate operates at the headquarters of the National Public Prosecution Authority for those in Kigali City and at Rwandan embassies in various countries for those abroad.

| How long does it take from the day of application to service delivery? | It takes three working days to receive the certificate after applying. |
| What is the cost for the service? | 1,200 Rwandan Francs for applicants within Rwanda. Applicants through Embassies pay fees determined by the Embassy based on the exchange rate of the respective country. |
What are the required documents to get the criminal record certificate?
| Documents required to apply for a criminal record certificate: For Rwandan citizens residing in Rwanda: 1. A valid National ID. For foreigners residing in Rwanda: 1. A valid passport copy; 2. A valid Rwanda visa copy; 3. A recent passport-sized photo showing both cheeks. For Rwandan citizens living abroad (application through the embassy): 1. A valid Rwandan passport copy; 2. A valid visa copy (for those residing in non-EAC/CEPGL countries); 3. Proof of residence permit; 4. Two recent passport-sized photos showing both cheeks; 5. Payment of the certificate fee as determined by the embassy. For foreigners who once lived in Rwanda: 1. A passport copy; 2. Proof of previous residence in Rwanda; 3. Two recent passport-sized photos showing both cheeks; 4. Payment of the certificate fee as determined by the embassy. |
| How Application process | 1. After submitting an application through the Irembo platform (www.irembo.gov.rw), the applicant will receive an SMS notification confirming the submission. 2. Upon payment, an SMS will be sent to confirm successful payment. 3. If the application is approved or if any additional steps are required, the applicant will receive a notification. 4. Once the certificate is ready, the applicant will be notified to download it from the Irembo platform or seek assistance from an Irembo agent. |
