UNIT IN CHARGE OF GENDER BASED VIOLENCE CASES

Background

It has become clear that the number of sexual violence cases is increasing, and prosecuting these cases requires more diligence and commitment than other types of cases. This led the National Public Prosecution Authority to a decision of establishing a Unit specifically tasked with follow up of these cases. This Unit began operating in 2005 and consists of 12 prosecutors along with the head of Unit. At each Intermediate Level of the Public Prosecution, there is a prosecutor responsible for prosecuting these cases, and the head of this Unit has an office at the headquarters of the National Public Prosecution Authority.

Objectives of the Unit

  1. To specifically monitor cases of gender-based violence, whether against children or adults, with the aim of ensuring swift justice.
  2. To collect all necessary evidence in gender-based violence cases.
  3. To raise awareness and educate people about the severity of these crimes and their consequences in order to prevent them.
  4. To provide proper support to individuals who approach the institution with issues related to gender-based violence.
  5. To collaborate with other governmental or non-governmental organizations to establish effective strategies for fight against gender-based violence.

Vision of the Unit

To fight against and prosecute all forms of gender-based violence, whether against children or adults.
